BCN Stool Disk Base

The version of the BCN stool with a disc base is an adjustable swivel stool. The modernist design of the stool by the designers, Harry & Camila, is distinctive. This is particularly apparent in the striking manner in which the seat is formed by bending back on itself in a ess-shape. An emphasis has been placed on the quality and advanced technology of the materials.

For instance, the seat of the stool is made from polybutylene terephthalate, a highly robust and heat-resistant plastic used in the electronics industry, while the mechanism, which is adjustable in height, is fashioned from steel. The stool comes in colours that are distinctive to this range, namely, white, black, fluorescent green and coral red, with the remaining parts of the structure being a polished metallic silver in colour. The stool is already used by several discerning customers in modern lobbies, restaurants, bars and kitchens from Stockholm to Italy and from London to Berlin.

The BCN plastic stool was the result of exploring how new materials can be used to create furniture. The main feature of the stool is the design of the seat. The seat was ergonomically designed by specialists to maximize comfort. The final shape required a huge developmental effort during the design phase.

The stool is made from a type of plastic called PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) which is rather unusual in the furniture industry. Previously, the most common use for this type of plastic was for insulation in the electronics industry because it is very strong and it is resistant to both heat and solvents. The metal structure of the stool has been crafted from steel originating from the Umbrian town of Todi.

Over time the BCN plastic stool has become a designer product that is recognized and appreciated not only as a stylish seat for use in your kitchen, but also it has been chosen by many architects and interior designers for use in bars, pubs, hotels and restaurants.
The stool is available in three heights: tall (perfect for a breakfast bar), low (it becomes a backless chair) and medium.

The BCN stool received in 2008 the Good Design Award – the long-standing international design award from the Chicago Athenaeum, the Museum of Architecture and Design of Chicago, the oldest and worlds most recognised program for design excellence worldwide.
